Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I drive the motorhomes?

Our larger motorhomes (Monty & Otto) are between 3.5 and 6 tonnes, you will need a C1 category drivers licence. Pre-1997 drivers’ licences have this category included. We will ask you to upload a photograph of your drivers’ licence along with any appropriate insurance documents and 2 separate forms of ID when you make your booking and you’ll need to bring these along with you when you collect the vehicle.

Daisy can be driven by anyone holding a full UK driver's licence.

All drivers must be over the age of 24.

In order to make our standard checks, in the case of UK drivers licences, you will need to supply a licence check code no more than 21 days before the start of your Booking. To do this, you can access this service online at https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence or call the DVLA contact centre on 0300 083 0013. We will remind you to do this prior to the start of your Booking..

  • Does Camper Hire Sussex provide insurance?

Your hire fee will include insurance as standard with £1000 excess for use in the UK. We can arrange for a lower excess or insurance for driving abroad at an additional cost.

We also strongly recommend that you take out appropriate travel insurance.

  • Do you provide breakdown recovery?

Breakdown Recovery for the UK is provided as standard. This won’t include recovery when travelling abroad and you would need to arrange this yourself. RAC offer a comprehensive European breakdown service.

  • Can we take the Campervan abroad?

Yes, subject to the necessary insurance arrangements and if you have the necessary driving permits. Helpful information on driving hire vehicles in Europe can be found on the RAC website.

You will also need to obtain a Vehicle on Hire Certificate, which can be obtained from the RAC for £8 + Delivery. Click here for form. We will provide you with the necessary information on the vehicle and owner and a letter of authorisation to support your application.

  • What forms of ID do you accept?

In addition to your physical driving licence card, you also need to show 2 forms of ID as proof of your residential address which should match that shown on your driving licence. These should be dated within 90 days of the commencement date of the Hire and acceptable documents include:

    1. Utility bill

    2. Bank statement

    3. Council Tax bill

    4. TV Subscription, Internet or Telephone bill

    5. Credit Card Statement

  • Do you provide an induction to give us an overview of the motorhome?

Yes – when collecting the vehicle (or delivering the vehicle to the camp site (see above), we will run through everything you need to know.  Everything has been carefully designed to make things as easy as possible – leaving you all the time in the world to relax and enjoy your adventure.

  • Can I view the motorhome before booking?

Yes – you can visit us prior to making your booking, but please arrange this with us so we can ensure the motorhome you are interested in is available to view.

  • Where do we collect the campervan from, and can we leave our car with you?

We are based at our business unit in Oving, near Chichester. There’s plenty of room to leave your car too – although we would ask that you leave your keys with us so that we can move your vehicle should we need to.

  • What is included in the hire tariff?

Everything is included, with the exception of any campsite fees and any additional insurance which you’ll need to cover yourself. A security deposit of £500 is applied to all hires which is refunded when the vehicle is returned in good condition.

Please do read your hire agreement carefully and take a look at our General Hire Terms & Conditions.

  • How is the motorhome powered?

The vehicles are diesel and are equipped with solar panels and leisure batteries which should last a few days, depending on your consumption. The vehicles also have hook up connections for use at campsites that offer this facility. Cooking facilities run off LPG.

  • What do I need to bring?

We provide clean bedding and towels and your cooking and dining equipment, so you really only need to bring your clothes, toiletries and food.

  • Can we bring our dog?

Yes, we accept well-behaved dogs, but please do not allow them on the sofa or beds.

  • Are the campers non-smoking?

Yes – most definitely no smoking allowed inside the camper vans.

  • Is there a limit on the number of miles we can drive the vehicle?

Our standard terms and conditions provide for a mileage allowance of 160 miles per day or hire. The mileage of the vehicle will be recorded at the time of collection and return. Any miles over and above the daily mileage allowance will be charged at 20p per mile and will be payable at the time of return.

  • What if I have any concerns or complaints?

Let us know as soon as possible so that we can rectify any concerns you may have.

We do ask, if you have a specific complaint that we are unable to resolve, that you contact us  in writing by email  within 28 days of the hire end date and we aim to resolve these within 28 days or receipt.

  • What is the payment and cancellation policy?

Please refer to our General Hire Terms & Conditions for full details on deposits, payments, cancellations or changes to your booking.

Each of our camper vans have a very distinct character but each one is perfect for any adventure. Meet Monty, Otto and Daisy.

Please note that Monty and Otto both require a C1 Category Driving Licence. These are typically already on Driving Licences obtained before 1997, but for UK Driving Licences issued after this date, an additional test may need to be taken.
